The National Commission for Communications Regulation of Ukraine (NCCR) initiated the convening the ITU-T Workshop "Mobile Telecommunications and Fixed/Mobile Convergence - the realities going forward" in Kiev, Ukraine, from 12 to 14 September 2005.
The Workshop is organized by the Ukrainian State Centre of Radio Frequencies in collaboration with the ITU-T Study Group 19 (SG19).
The specific objectives of the workshop include:
- Highlight the ongoing work in ITU and elsewhere concerning Mobile Telecommunications Networks, in particular the work on IMT-2000, Fixed Mobile Convergence and guidelines on the transition of existing mobile networks to IMT-2000 / NGN.
- Review the current status of IMT-2000 both in terms of standardisation and roll out
- Bring more awareness of the technical and policy issues concerning Mobile Telecommunications Networks, Fixed Mobile Convergence and NGN
- Identify ITU directions and further work topics for proceeding forward to meet the needs of mobility and network convergence
Mr. Oleg Haiduk, the Chaiman of NCCR of Ukraine, Mr. Vasyl Gandabura, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of Ukraine and Mr. Reinhard Scholl, Deputy to the Director of TSB, opened the Workshop.
This workshop has several tutorial sessions on Mobile/NGN technology and ITU (ITU-T and ITU-R) standardization, and will examine the current status and future evolution with regards to rollout, policy, technology and applications. It will also share with the countries in this region some case studies and a panel discussion to identify the needs and action plan for the region.
Presentations are made from the ITU, key Standards Organisations (SDOs), relevant forums/associations and ITU Sector Members.
The representatives from the ITU, the European Telecommunications Statnadtization Institute (ETSI), Communications Administrations, Regulatory Bodies, Research Institutes, Universities and Communications Operators from European, Nothern American, Asian and African Countries take part in the Workshop. The well-known telecommunications equipment manufacturers, namely Rohde & Schwarz, Huawei, Siemens, Alcatel, Motorola, Nortel Networks, T-Systems, Qualcomm, are presented as well.
Taking into account the importance for Ukraine of issues discussed during the Workshop the representatives of Ukrainian telecommunications companies participate also in this event.
